America's loudest lounge singer Richard Cheese performs swingin' Vegas versions of rock, rap, and Top40 hits, "swankifying" contemporary songs into traditional pop vocal standards. With his Lounge Against The Machine swing band, Cheese has released more than 30 albums, sold a zillion CDs, LPs, and album downloads, and played hundreds of sellout concerts around the world, from Las Vegas to London, from Portland to Portugal, and from Hollywood to Honolulu.
The finger-snapping, liquor-lapping, night-capping crooner first stepped into the spotlight in 2000 with his debut album LOUNGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. This critically acclaimed CD featured "swankified" versions of alternative rock songs, such as CREEP, LAST RESORT, and NOOKIE, arranged for a big band sound. Thanks to airplay on radio stations coast to coast, including KROQ/Los Angeles, Z100/New York City, and the nationally-syndicated Dr. Demento Show, Cheese soon found an audience that shared his love of lounge music, including rockstar Brian Setzer, who hired Richard Cheese & Lounge Against The Machine to perform at his private Christmas party with The Stray Cats!
Soon, Cheese landed a gig as the co-host and bandleader on MTV's Say What Karaoke series. He was also interviewed in 2001 on CNN, profiled in The Los Angeles Times, and featured as a category on VH1's Rock 'N' Roll Jeopardy. Cheese headlined at The House Of Blues in Los Angeles, The Venetian Hotel in Vegas, and at radio station festivals like 91X X-Fest in San Diego, the WHFS HFSmas Nutcracker concert at Washington DC's Patriot Center, and the Y100 Feztival at Philadelphia's Tweeter Center. Cheese was also hired to entertain at Blink182 drummer Travis Barker's first wedding!
In 2002, Cheese was back in blacktie with his TUXICITY CD, an album of uncensored alternative, rap, and pop covers, including loungey remakes of BABY GOT BACK, HOT FOR TEACHER, and CHOP SUEY. Cheese's popularity grew with sell-out concerts around the U.S.A., plus a slot as the opening act for the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Concert at the world famous Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. Cheese also made radio appearances on The Opie & Anthony Show, The Jonathon Brandmeier Show, and The Howard Stern Show, sang live on Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends morning show, and appeared a dozen times as the Vegas house band on NBC's Last Call With Carson Daly. The standing-room-only concerts continued in 2003, as Cheese criss-crossed the country playing venues from the Mercury Lounge in New York City to Sunset Station Casino in Vegas.
Cheese returned in 2004 with his I'D LIKE A VIRGIN CD, an intuxicating collection of "loungified" covers, including a snazzy remake of GIN AND JUICE, and an inspired version of Michael Jackson's BEAT IT accompanied by a children's choir. Cheese performed on ABC-TV's Jimmy Kimmel Live, and his cheesey version of Disturbed's song DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS was featured in the 2004 Universal motion picture Dawn Of The Dead, thanks to director and superfan Zack Snyder. RC&LATM played concerts around the globe in 2004, including a private party performance at the Playboy Mansion, and sellout gigs in Los Angeles, New Orleans, Vegas, Portland, Seattle, Honolulu, Portugal, and London.
In 2005, Cheese released his fourth album, APERITIF FOR DESTRUCTION, an all-new 18-track CD of kooky covers for lounge lovers. From 2 Live Crew's ME SO HORNY to U2's SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, Cheese served up another "fromage homage" to the hottest hits in music. RC&LATM performed a sellout concert at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles, and the band was hired for big-time showbiz events like the TVLand Awards and the Daytime Emmy Awards.
Cheese released two new albums in 2006. His greatest hits CD, THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE MOON: THE BEST OF RICHARD CHEESE, featured 10 all-new recordings plus 8 of Cheese's cheesiest favorites. Backed by a big band and a bigger sound, this was the biggest Dick yet! In the winter, Cheese presented his sixth CD, SILENT NIGHTCLUB, a collection of happenin' holiday hits just in time for Christmas. The all-new album included 14 spirited covers of songs like HOLIDAY IN CAMBODIA, PERSONAL JESUS, and ICE ICE BABY. Plus, Cheese recorded an all-new original song called CHRISTMAS IN LAS VEGAS, which was featured on the NBC-TV series Las Vegas. And, Cheese's versions of SILENT NIGHT and Beyonce's NAUGHTY GIRL were featured on the NBC-TV soap series Passions.
In 2007, RC&LATM hit the road for their nationwide "Drinkchronicity" tour. The band performed sellout shows for thousands of fans at House Of Blues locations in Chicago and New Orleans, the Bowery Ballroom in New York City, and The Derby in Los Angeles, plus venues in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Orlando, and San Diego. Cheese also began headlining at The Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, including a sold out show on New Year's Eve. RC&LATM released their seventh CD in fall 2007, DICK AT NITE. This album featured lounge-style versions of classic TV theme songs, such as THE BRADY BUNCH and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS. Several tracks from the album were included in promotional events for TVLand.
In 2009 and 2010, RC&LATM released three all-new CDs. The first album, VIVA LA VODKA: RICHARD CHEESE LIVE presented live performances from Cheese’s eight years of concerts, radio interviews, TV appearances, and party gigs. The band’s next release, O.K. BARTENDER, was an all-new studio album, featuring covers of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and MY NECK, MY BACK. And, Cheese produced a new CD for Waikiki lounge singer Johnny Aloha titled LAVAPALOOZA, featuring Hawaiian-style “tiki music” versions of popular rock and rap songs. Cheese was also interviewed for a feature
article in The Wall Street Journal, and headlined a 30th anniversary party for Washington D.C.'s 9:30 Club.
Cheese returned in 2011 with his tenth album, LIVE AT THE ROYAL WEDDING, an unbelievable live performance recorded at Buckingham Palace in England! The band also headlined a sold-out show at London's Forum, and performed for 15,000 people -- at 11:30AM -- at England's SONISPHERE FESTIVAL. RC&LATM also toured the U.S. with huge concerts in Vegas, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Houston, Boston, Atlanta, and on a boat in New York City. And, the band performed at a private party at Muse drummer Dominic Howard's home in Hollywood.
Later that year, Cheese released his eleventh album, A LOUNGE SUPREME, with a whole new collection of new loungified hits like LIKE A G6, BOOM BOOM POW, MARGARITAVILLE, and TIK TOK. The album also introduced two new original songs, Cheese's swingin' salute to laziness, LET'S LOUNGE, and his new original composition BIRTHDAY SONG.
In 2012, Cheese released BACK IN BLACK TIE, a new CD paying tribute to the deadest rockstars in music history, like Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Rick James, Bob Marley, and Eazy-E. The band also performed in Vegas, Seattle, Houston, San Francisco, and returned to London for a headlining concert at Cadogan Hall, and a private Halloween party performance at the home of British TV presenter Jonathan Ross! Then RC&LATM appeared as the house band on The Jonathan Ross Show on ITV1, and at the band Muse's concert after-party on a boat on the Thames River! Also in 2012, Cheese released two digital compilation albums, DOWN WITH THE DICKNESS and HAIL TO THE CHEESE.
In 2013, Cheese returned to the road with appearances in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Orlando, Honolulu, and of course, Vegas. And, the band released THE ROYAL BABY ALBUM, a studio version of their 2011 "Live At The Royal Wedding" album performances. Then, just in time for Christmas, the band released COCKTAILS WITH SANTA, an all-new CD collection of holiday standards recorded in Santa's workshop at the North Pole! In 2014, Cheese performed several U.S. concerts on his "On The Rum" tour. And, Cheese wrote and sang the theme song THINK AGAIN for a World Hepatitis Day public service music video.
Cheese released three new CDs in 2015: BAKIN' AT THE BOULDER, a live album from their sold out April 2015 concert in Colorado; SUPERMASSIVE BLACK TUX, an all-new studio album; and a Star Wars homage titled THE LOUNGE AWAKENS: RICHARD CHEESE LIVE AT THE MOS EISLEY SPACEPORT CANTINA. In the fall, Cheese presented the first-ever "Lounging Man" Music Festival at Bimbo's in San Francisco, and RC&LATM headlined Jack Black's Festival Supreme concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Cheese returned to the silver screen in 2016 when director Zack Snyder featured two songs by RC&LATM in his blockbuster motion picture Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. And, in 2017, director Chris McKay included two songs by Cheese on The LEGO Batman Movie soundtrack -- and RC&LATM appeared on-screen as LEGO minifigs in the film!
Also in 2017, Cheese's recording of PERSONAL JESUS was used as the opening theme song on an episode of HBO's The Leftovers, and the band performed live on ESPN in Vegas for NCAA March Madness. Meanwhile, the band began headlining regularly in Vegas with a new residency at Red Rock Casino Resort. An all-new studio album LICENSED TO SPILL dropped in October 2017, followed in February 2018 by a new greatest hits compilation album, LORD OF THE SWINGS: THE BEST OF RICHARD CHEESE, VOLUME 2. In 2019, RICHARD CHEESE'S BIG SWINGIN' ORGAN was released, a digital album featuring instrumental organ versions of RC&LATM's most popular tunes.
In summer 2020, the band released another all-new album titled NUMBERS OF THE BEAST, Cheese's first-ever vinyl LP. And, Richard Cheese lent his voice to the hit animated TV series American Dad. Cheese made his on-screen motion picture debut in 2021 in the Lionsgate comedy smash Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar. Then, in May, Cheese sang VIVA LAS VEGAS in the opening sequence of director Zack Snyder's Netflix horror hit Army Of The Dead. That same summer, Cheese performed for 5,000 drunks at the legendary Tiki Oasis convention in San Diego.
Two more new albums were released in 2021, BIG CHEESE ENERGY and SNAPPIER THAN EVER: THE ORIGINAL SONGS. Next, RC&LATM released a full-length live concert movie, RICHARD CHEESE: LIVE FROM HOLLYWOOD, filmed at the Bourbon Room in Los Angeles. And, in 2022, Cheese put out two new greatest hits compilations on vinyl, BESAME QUESO: SUPREMO LATIN HITS, and PUSSY PARTY, with a pussy in every song guaranteed.
In 2023, the band released LIVE FROM HOLLYWOOD, an hour-long live album featuring 25 songs and a dozen laughs. And, RC&LATM embarked on "Possibly Probably Potentially Perhaps Their Last Ever Tour" with soldout concerts in Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland, Boulder, Seattle, and San Francisco. Cheese also appeared on The Stephanie Miller radio show, performed as the bandleader on YouTube's Hangin' With Dr. Z, and was inducted into the shrunken head wall of fame at the Golden Tiki Lounge in Vegas.
In 2024, Cheese pressed his album LOUNGE AGAINST THE MACHINE on vinyl for the first time, and also released an all-new studio album, BLUE NO MATTER WHO, featuring lushly orchestrated saloon song ballads of his favorite rock songs. The album also includes another all-new original standard, I'M BLUE NO MATTER WHO, written by Cheese himself.
Now, after a quarter century in show business, Cheese is the subject of a new career retrospective book. "GRATEFUL: 25 YEARS OF MUSIC, MARTINIS, AND MADNESS WITH RICHARD CHEESE & LOUNGE AGAINST THE MACHINE" by Mark Jonathan Davis will be published in 2025, along with an accompanying album of rarities and unreleased songs.
Thanks to two decades of concerts, 30+ albums, 200,000 social media followers, and a million martinis, Cheese has earned a prominent place in that prestigious pantheon of lounge legends: Frank ... Sammy ... Dean .......... and Richard Cheese.
